# Owasco Lake Visitor FAQ

### What is there to do at Owasco Lake?

Swimming, boating, paddling and fishing are the main draws. Owasco is shallow and warm by Finger Lakes standards, and FingerLakes.com counts four boat launch sites and two marinas. Emerson Park at the north end has a beach area, boat launches, paddlecraft rentals, disc golf and a playground. Nearby Auburn has the Seward House Museum and the Harriet Tubman sites.

### How big is Owasco Lake?

FingerLakes.com lists Owasco Lake at 11.1 miles long, 1.3 miles wide and 177 feet deep. It calls Owasco the smallest and warmest of the six major Finger Lakes; Visit Finger Lakes ranks it the 6th largest of the Finger Lakes.

### What does 'Owasco' mean?

Sources differ. FingerLakes.com says it may come from the Iroquois 'dwas-co' (bridge on the water) or 'was-co' (floating bridge). Visit Finger Lakes gives 'The Crossing Point' or 'Floating Bridge'.

### Where should I stay when visiting Owasco Lake?

Springside Inn at 6141 West Lake Road, Auburn, is across the road from the lake's western shore. It has 7 guest rooms with breakfast included and the Holland House rental for groups. Emerson Park is about 4 minutes away.

### Does Springside Inn have a restaurant?

No. Springside Inn no longer operates a public restaurant or daily bar. It hosts private events, weddings and overnight guests, and opens to the public for select events such as holiday dinners, brunches, clambakes and Neighborhood Night dinners. Check its event schedule.

### Is the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park free?

The National Park Service lists no entrance fee for Harriet Tubman National Historical Park. Guided tours at the Harriet Tubman Home (180 South Street) are by appointment and carry their own fees; call 315-252-2081.
